What I did

I followed the same process as I did here. However, I had initially wanted to use 1in plywood to cut my pieces out, but my lecturer told me that since i wanted to make 2 layers, I should use a thinner piece of plywood and make it in 2 pieces. So I had used an 15mm MDF board. I split the design up and cut out the pieces. I also later on decided to make the casing for the motor and cut out the rings with a circular board as the backing. I had to sand down the sides for a smoother finish on the wood pieces. In total, the pieces I cut out was the fixtures and covers. I then used wood glue to attach the pieces together. The cut out pieces are shown below.
